Pedestrian dies after being struck by SUV on I-135

NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) – One woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 135 Saturday night.

It happened just before 10:30 p.m. on southbound I-135 near East 1st Street.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, for an unknown reason, a pedestrian was walking north in the southbound lanes of I-135 when a Dodge Durango driving southbound struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was identified as 22-year-old Aubrie-Li C. Lakey from Newton.

The SUV contained three occupants. No one was injured.

The crash is under investigation.
