WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Highway Patrol has posted pictures of more traffic tickets given to drivers allegedly speeding at or over 100 mph this month.

The KHP says the fastest driver in the group of tickets was going 120 in a 75 mph zone on Interstate 70 in northeast Kansas. The fine is $420 before court costs.

On Monday night, the KHP says a driver with an open container of alcohol was going 115 in a 70 mph zone on U.S. Highway 59 in Franklin County.

“At least their bad decision was disrupted before they hurt themselves or somebody else,” the KHP posted on social media.

The driver will have to wait until a court date to learn the cost.

The largest fine in the group is from the Topeka area. The KHP says a driver was going 102 mph in a 55 mph construction zone on Interstate 470. The fine is $900. With the docket fee, the total is $1,008.

The KHP says another ticket from the Topeka area involves a 3-year-old who was not in a proper car seat. The driver was going 98 in a 65 on Interstate 335. The driver will have to wait until a court date to learn the cost.

A driver on I-70 in Russell County was also ticketed for more than just speeding. A trooper says the driver was going 103 in a 75, didn’t have a license with them, and didn’t have registration or insurance for the vehicle. That driver was also told to go to court.

“Some people just don’t realize how very bad things can go in a very short amount of time. Thankfully, these people were stopped and ‘reminded’ before somebody got hurt,” the KHP said.

Many other tickets have been written this month, including two in McPherson County on Saturday. One driver was going 113 in the 75 mph zone on Interstate 135. The trooper also cited the driver for not having a valid license or insurance and not having a required ignition interlock device. That driver will be headed to court. The other driver was going 100 on Interstate 135. The fine is $150 before court costs.
