TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – On Wednesday, the Topeka Zoo announced it had received a ‘substantial lead gift’ that will be used to work on the zoo’s next master plan.

The gift the zoo calls transformative comes from the Lumpkin Family Trust, a trust dedicated to the Grayson Goodwin Lumpkin Barn.

“This generous contribution will enable the zoo to introduce new animals, create joyous play areas, and offer innovative learning opportunities focused on conservation and environmental stewardship,” the zoo wrote in a press release.

The new project will be designed to cater to visitors of all ages by offering interactive experiences. The zoo said it will use the gift to deepen children’s and families’ appreciation for the natural world and conservation.
