    Man sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for Topeka killing

    TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – A Topeka man arrested for a 2023 shooting death has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison.

    A spokeswoman for the Shawnee County Attorney said Christopher Brown was sentenced Monday, Aug. 26 to 233 months, or just short of 20 years, in prison for the killing of Sherman Coleman, Jr., 33, of Topeka.

    On April 17, 2023, police found Coleman in the 2300 block of Southeast Bellview Avenue suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.

    Brown was originally charged with seven felonies, the most severe of which was first-degree murder. All but one charge was dropped as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in July.
