Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass met with the owner of Langer’s Deli in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday to address concerns that have owner Norm Langer thinking about closing the famous delicatessen.

Langer said he wants to see the city make dramatic changes in public safety and address the homelessness issue around MacArthur Park.

He recently told the Los Angeles Times his top priorities are “improved lighting, increased police patrols, social services outreach and targeted clean-up efforts.”

A short video of Langer meeting with the mayor was posted as a Story on the deli’s Instagram page but did not provide any other details.

The beloved deli on South Alvarado Street has been an institution in downtown Los Angeles for 77 years.

Deputy Mayor Zach Seidl said earlier this week that Mayor Bass has “been in direct conversation with Mr. Langer.”

“Supporting local businesses like Langers is a top priority, not just through direct aid and resources but also through addressing homelessness and crime … Urgent action on all fronts will continue,” Seidl said.
