EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) – A local brewery is releasing the official craft beer of the UTEP miners, Miner BrewTM.

The beer is made in El Paso, by the hand of El Pasoans, and marks the first-ever specialty beer specifically brewed for the University of Texas at El Paso, DeadBeach announced in a news release.

“We’re excited, as a small business here in central El Paso, to finally brew UTEP’s official craft beer,” said Jason Hunt, founder and owner of DeadBeach Brewery.

“When DeadBeach first partnered with UTEP Athletics in 2021, the team dreamed of brewing UTEP’s first ever craft beer, made and named for every current and past UTEP Miner and every Miner at heart. We began discussing brewing this beer, which could be mass-produced in our new facility. Now that our facility is open and pumping out beer cans, we were able to make this dream beer a reality. A portion of the proceeds from this beer will go directly back to UTEP,” said Hunt. “So, get your picks up, and let’s get ready to celebrate an incredible year of UTEP Athletics. Go Miners!”

DeadBeach said the beer is a 4.1 percent ABV crushable Blonde Ale.

“We wanted to make a beer that would resonate with any beer drinker in our community; a Blonde Ale is known for its crisp, traditional taste. We made sure that the ABV on the beer was low so that it could be enjoyed through the games with ease,” said Gabriel Montoya, founder and head brewer of DeadBeach.

The beer will be launched on Friday, Sept. 6, at Minerpalooza and as well as at the first UTEP football home game.

DeadBeach said tastings of the beer will be available on both occasions so the community can familiarize itself with this brand-new Miner staple.

The beer will be available thereafter at UTEP Athletics’ games and at the DeadBeach tavern.

“We hope to have every beer drinker swing by our tent at these events and taste Miner Brew so they can get a glimpse of what beer made with real grain, hops, yeast and El Paso water is really like,” said Montoya.
