A search for a missing swimmer is underway at Kure Beach.An eyewitness shared video with ABC11 as the search took place on the North Carolina coast.The video showed a Coast Guard vessel on the water.Lifeguards cleared the ocean during that search for a 22-year-old man who disappeared about noon Thursday. Crews on the scene of possible drowning in Kure Beach
KURE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - Kure Beach Ocean Rescue is on the scene of a possible drowning near the Kure Beach Pier on Thursday afternoon, July 4. Per the sheriff’s office, they have a boat and drone out on the scene, and the Wilmington Police Department and Coast Guard responded with boats as well.
Teacher survey paints negative picture of what it's like working in New Hanover County schools
New Hanover County teachers and other staff members have provided overwhelmingly negative feedback about working for the district, according to a climate survey. The survey, designed to get feedback on where they believe the district can improve, was sent to teachers in May and included questions submitted by the school board.

WHAT’S HAPPENING (WWAY) — The 4th of July weekend is here and that means many things will be happening in the Cape Fear. In North Topsail Beach, its the 14th Annual Ocean City Jazz Festival. The festival aims to bring eyes to the genre with multiple musicians, DJ’s and drink tasting events. A variety of food trucks will also be available. Four Wilmington Sharks make Coastal Plain League All-Star team
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – Four Sharks have made the CPL All-Star team. Second baseman Caleb Johnson is one of the best base stealers in the CPL. He has 20 so far this season. Infielder Trace Wilhoite has been making a living at the plate. He leads the sharks in both home runs and runs batted in. Pitcher Greyson Linderman has been shut down on of the bullpen this season, he has more strikeouts than innings pitched and has a save. Starting pitcher Travis Lavendier has 4 wins in his 6 starts.
CFCC students stage walkout following marine tech chair's dismissal
At noon on Wednesday, about 40 members of Cape Fear Community College's marine tech program walked out of class. Students, faculty and alumni were protesting the recent removal of Jason Rogers, the former head of CFCC's marine tech program.
