BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The Bismarck Fire Department was called to action on the morning of Sunday, July 21, after a fire began in a second-story apartment.

At about 6:30 a.m., the Central Dakota Communications Center received a call on a structure fire at a multi-family dwelling in the 100 block of West Interstate Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from a room on the second floor.

Crews quickly gained entry and put out the fire, while the apartment building itself was searched and evacuated. The occupant of the apartment was not home at the time.

The fire was contained to one apartment, though minor smoke damage was present throughout the building. No injuries were reported to occupants or firefighters, but two pets perished in the blaze.

The cause of the fire currently remains under investigation.
