MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — City leaders in Minot have approved the budget amendment and buyout of six motor graders.

During the recent council meeting, Minot City council members chose from three options on a budget amendment for six motor graders. The three options were to buy, lease, or rent the machines.

Each one was $291,000 when they purchased them back in 2019. However, the prices for them have now increased to $409,000.

Motor graders have a service life of 5,000 hours, and the city’s current devices have 3,000 hours of service life left.

“What we have seen in the past is that we start seeing additional maintenance hours,” explained Minot Public Works’ Operations Director Bryan Banfill, “or additional maintenance time and cost associated with it. So with the current prices of equipment we have in our inventory, they are under two thousand hours. That is some good news for us.”

Now that the city has bought out the lease, it could save them $1.5 million.
