BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — In recent times, the cost of living has risen dramatically, especially in heavily populated states. This typically results in a decrease in disposable income, and in some cases, even leaving a state one loves solely because one cannot afford to live there. Luckily for those living in North Dakota, new research shows that they often do not have to deal with the same problems — namely because ND is one of the most affordable states to live in overall.

The counties with the lowest living costs in North Dakota

In a recent study by QR Code Generator , researchers took data from both the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis on each state, including their average disposable income and costs of living. These statistics were used to create an overall purchasing power score, which was then weighed against those of other states. When every number was ranked, it was found that North Dakotans have some of the best purchasing power in the nation, thanks to low costs and unexpectedly high salaries.

In addition to boasting a fairly high average amount of disposable income, it is worth noting that North Dakota has a low cost of living when compared to many other states — and when these two strong points are taken into consideration, it results in the Peace Garden State boasting a tremendous Purchasing Power Score. The only state that manages to eclipse ND in this regard is Wyoming, which features a slightly higher cost of living, but more disposable income.

In contrast to places with high scores, many states feature much lower levels of purchasing power — with states like Arizona, South Carolina, and Idaho being particular examples due to either low annual funds or high living costs. This is especially clear in the case of Hawaii, which combines a relatively low amount of disposable income with a sky-high cost to create a Purchasing Power Score of 0, which is far below even other low-ranking states.

“According to a recent survey,” states the code generator’s CEO Marc Porcar, “more than three in four Americans (77%) feel anxious about their financial situations. This highlights the importance of identifying states where living expenses are more manageable and disposable incomes are higher. “

Both cost of living and annual income are essential things to consider when balancing your budget. Still, there are also many different aspects, including one’s overall spending, career trajectory, and economic status.
