MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Water mains need to be at their best for North Dakota homes and businesses to get the water they need, but just like a lot of things in life, pipes don’t last forever.

In May, contractors went to work, replacing more than six broken water mains that broke apart in Minot.

Now the city is replacing two water mains: one on Beacon Street and one on 4th Street, with the replacement of the water main on 25th Street Southwest expected to start this month.

How often should you clean these things?

The pipe being replaced is anywhere from 80 years to more than 100 years old.

“It’s important so everyone gets the water they need in the city ideally know one loses access to water,” said Jesse Hoffart, the project manager for the Engineering Department at Minot Public Works.

All water main projects are expected to wrap up at the end of this month with some projects pending approval from the city.
