SOUTH HEART, N.D. ( KXNET )- After two years of digging, dirt work and planting, people in South Heart say the golf course is once again ready to play.

This month, Pheasant Country golf course reopened to players.

Owners shut down the privately owned 18-hole course about two years ago due to the decrease of members and poor conditions.

The course previously used water from the Heart River.

As part of the project, workers installed new irrigation to take recycled water from the nearby oil refinery, along with using chemicals to stimulate grass growth on the greens and fairways.

“The hole right behind me is hole 10, and a lot of people consider it one of the hardest par fours in North Dakota, so we have decided to put a bunker right in front of it and make it even harder,” course pro Kirby Robb said. “It’s a 450 par 4 with very hard tee shot, and the second shot is almost as hard as the first shot.”

The course is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Depending on weather, Robb hopes to keep the course open to golfers through late October.
