NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — It was a meeting of the minds and hearts at the Grand Portage National Monument, where border patrol agents from the Grand Forks Sector met and participated in festivities with Lake Superior Chippewa Native Americans.

Grand Portage Rendezvous Days is a celebration where community members come together to enjoy music, dance, and attend craft demonstrations and hands-on workshops.

Historically, the Rendezvous was a way for different tribes to meet and trade with locals and North West Company agents, clerks, and partners.

During this year’s pow wow, agents conducted community and public relations, backed by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and the US NPS Law Enforcement Park Rangers.

The Rendezvous is always held on the second weekend of August and is a tradition that dates back 220 years.
