WATFORD CITY, ND ( KXNET ) — Governor Doug Burgum is scheduled to open this year’s Main Street ND Summit with a keynote address.

According to the Governor’s Office, the summit is an offshoot of the Main Street Initiative, which provides community leaders with resources that can help, “create vibrant cities poised to attract and retain a 21st-century workforce, and help North Dakota compete and succeed in a global economy through diversification of industries.”

The summit offers an opportunity for local leaders, industry experts, and citizens to band together and devise a plan to ensure “Regional Prosperity” — which is also the theme of this year’s event.

Summit activities begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, with a Kickoff Street Fair at the Rough Rider Center in Watford City. Burgum will deliver his keynote address on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m.

Wednesday’s events after the speech include a Green Mile Block Party, a City Trail Walk from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and a Long X Visitor Little Market, as well as an art reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will conclude on Thursday, August 29, after the Main Street ND Awards are presented by Lt. Governor Tammy Miller.

Registration for the summit is still open. For more information, visit this page on Main Street ND’s website.
