MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — A new building is expected to open after Labor Day supporting the needs of one community.

After breaking ground in May of 2023, this new medical center is nearing its completion roughly 20,000 square feet and costing around $20 million to build.

“So one of the reasons we decided to build this facility as physicians you see more people getting employed by hospital systems or private equity and physicians are losing their autonomy the ability to practice medicine the way they want to and we just decided that we needed to make a break from our previous employment and practice medicine the right way. it is not about the dollars it is about providing quality care for people,” said Dr. Aaron Albers, the co-owner of Dakota Surgical Center.

They will be focusing on specialties like orthopedics, hand, podiatry, general surgery, and other procedures.

An ophthalmologist from Bismarck will also be available to perform cataract surgery.

“It is going to be really good for the community because number one, the cost of care is about 37% less than what the hospitals can charge patients for patient surgery. Number two, it is a lot more efficient, and number three, the infection rates in the surgery centers are a lot lower than hospitals. So it is going to be a lot safer for the patients in the long run,” said Dr. Albers.

On the clinic side of the center, there are 16 exam rooms and a minor procedure room.

The surgery center consists of four operating rooms, with 14 pre and post-surgical operating bays.

“We want to be a facility that provides timely services and that the community can come get their medical care quickly and efficiently,” said Dr. Daniel Lee, a co-owner of Dakota Surgical Center.

Overnight stays will also be an option for patients.

The clinic is scheduled to open on September 3, with the surgery center opening in October.

The clinic will not act as an emergency room, however, they will look at minor injuries like sprains and breaks.

If it is a life-threatening emergency, you’re urged to call 911.

The clinic will be open from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the surgery center will be open until 4 p.m.
