MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Like most skills you learn in life, music is something most people pick up when they’re young.

Minot Music Academy is a place where children kids can pick up an instrument and learn to play.

The center teaches kids who are between three and 12 years old. The academy offers several programs that vary from nine weeks all the way through the entire school year.

Classes are after school in the afternoon and provide kids with lessons on woodwind, string, and percussion instruments.

Parents can also join with their child in a parent participation program.

Minot Music Academy teachers say that the benefits of music education can last a lifetime.

“It’s so important for all aspects of their development, so many studies have shown for decades the benefits of learning music. It involves your spatial reasoning, your visual perception, it involves coordination, it even helps your language development, your focus, and attention span,” said Mindy Dicken, the owner of Minot Music Academy.
