    Big rivalry games kick off Longhorns men’s, women’s SEC hoops schedules

    AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Southeastern Conference released its schedules for the upcoming men’s and women’s basketball seasons, and the Texas Longhorns will play their inaugural games against familiar foes.

    The men’s team kicks off SEC play Jan. 4 in College Station against Texas A&M before hosting Auburn in the Moody Center’s first SEC men’s game in a midweek game. All midweek games will be on Tuesdays or Wednesdays depending on broadcast partner availability. All weekend games will be on Saturdays.

    Former Longhorns coach Rick Barnes will bring his Tennessee squad into Moody Center on Jan. 11 while the Aggies make the return trip to Austin on Jan. 25. Texas plays blue-blood power Kentucky once during the regular season, Feb. 15 in Austin. The Longhorns close out the regular season hosting Oklahoma on March 8.

    The SEC tournament will be March 12-16 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

    On the women’s side, they’ll hit the road to play Oklahoma on Jan. 2 in Norman and then host Arkansas on Jan. 5 for this first SEC home game. Texas takes on defending national champions South Carolina twice in the regular season, Jan, 12 in Columbia and Feb. 9 in Austin. They’ll play Texas A&M once, Feb. 2 in College Station and the conference opener is the only time they play the Sooners.

    Texas plays former Baylor coach Kim Mulkey and her Louisiana State squad once, Feb. 16 in Austin, and Vic Schaefer’s former team Mississippi State once in Starkville on Feb. 27. All weekend games are on Sundays with all but one midweek game on Thursday. The lone Monday game is Feb. 24 against Georgia.

    The SEC tournament will feature all 16 teams March 5-9 in Greenville, South Carolina at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
