Popular Spice Recalled Across Nebraska Poses 'Permanent' Health Risk

Colonna Brothers voluntarily recalled their 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon and 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon sold in Nebraska on July 30th due to "elevated lead levels." According to an official press released printed by the United States Food & Drug Administration , the products were distributed to retail stores nationwide and through the mail.

Affected products include 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon with best by dates and lot codes of "12/05/25 12 D8" and "12/05/25 12 D11" and 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon with a best by date and lot code of "10/06/25 10A11."

Per the release, symptoms of prolonged lead expose include increased blood lead levels, "permanent damage to the central nervous system" resulting in "learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems" (for children), and "kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects" (for adults).

As of July 31st, no illnesses were reported as a direct result of consuming the recalled cinnamon.

Consumers who have purchased "Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon" or "Marcum Ground Cinnamon" listed above should return the item to the place of purchase for a refund or dispose of it as soon as possible.
