SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County is seeing a rise in pregnant dogs, leading to more litters being abandoned or surrendered.

A crucial way to address this overpopulation is through spaying and neutering.

"Spokane County SNIP," a community collaboration event, will offer free spay-neuter procedures for 100 household dogs. The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 25, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at SCRAPS (Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service).

"Spokane County SNIP" is supported by a coalition of local partners and volunteers:

    • Northeast Washington Spay and Neuter Alliance (NEWSNA) : Provides a mobile surgery trailer, surgical medications, liability insurance, and scheduling.
    • SCRAPS Hope Foundation : Funds medical supplies.
    • PetSavers : Manages check-in and check-out on the event day.
    • Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary : Contributes skilled volunteers for the surgical teams and manages grant acquisition and distribution.
    • Murci’s Mission Rescue : Supplies skilled volunteers for the surgical teams.
    • The Furry Farm Rescue : Provides skilled volunteers for the surgical teams.
    • SCRAPS Volunteers : Assist with surgery support, cleaning, and dog care during the event.

Registration is required, with a refundable or donatable reservation fee of $25.

Visit www.spokanesnip.com to reserve a spot. Donations will help fund future events.
