    Evacuations reduced for wildfire burning north of Carlton

    OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. -- Evacuations have been reduced for a wildfire burning a few miles north of Carlton, Washington on Wednesday.

    On August 14, around 3:30 p.m., Okanogan County Emergency Management issued level 2 (Be Set) evacuations for a wildfire burning near Twisp Carlton Road, about 14 miles north of the city of Carlton and a three-hour drive west of Spokane.

    Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the evacuation orders were lowered to Level 1 (Be Ready).

    Okanogan County Emergency Management said the fire's forward progression had been stopped and crews were working on containment.

    The fire is burning on the west side of the Methow River and the east side of Twisp Carlton Road.

    People should avoid the area as firefighters work to control the flames.
