(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — Water service was successfully restored at the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) East Cañon Complex on Saturday, April 6.

The water was shut off at the facility on Thursday, April 4, due to a leak, and the CDOC previously had estimated that water would be restored in three to four days. The CDOC said it had brought in portable toilets for use by inmates and staff and was providing potable water.

Those reports were contested by the families of some incarcerated inmates, however. Families alleged that inmates were not being given the amount of water they were supposed to, and if they spoke up, they were sent to solitary confinement.

The water service was restored to the facility over the weekend, according to a post on the CDOC’s Facebook page around 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The CDOC said it was focused on “swiftly resuming operations” following the outage.
