UPDATE: Escaped inmate apprehended in Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Colorado State Patrol, escaped convict, Kegan VanVliet, described by law enforcement as a violent fugitive, was in Colorado Springs at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 7.

CSPD K9 officers, Unmanned Aerial Units (UAS), Officers, and a Tactical Enforcement Unit Tac Team were requested to assist in the apprehension of VanVliet.

According to CSPD, around 12:30 a.m., UAS Officer Campbell identified VanVliet walking in the 5800 block of North Nevada, near Pulpit Rock Park. As law enforcement closed in on his location, a TEU officer located Vanvliet’s hiding place. When confronted, he started running.

CSPD K9 Officer Lofgren and his Police K9 Riggs were in the area and warned VanVliet to stop, “or he would be bit”, according to CSPD. VanVliet stopped running and followed all commands. CSPD reports that due to K9 Riggs’ influential presence, VanVliet was taken into custody and no force was necessary.

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public to be on the lookout for an escaped inmate.

Kegan VanVliet was last seen on foot on Friday, June 7 along U.S. Highway 50 at Justice Center Road in Cañon City. He is described as a white man, 6 feet tall, weighing 175 pounds. VanVliet is described as having gray-blonde hair and blue eyes.

He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

If you spot this escaped inmate, do not approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately with location information.
