Great horned owl, hawk rescued in Colorado Springs by CPW

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A great horned owl and a juvenile hawk were both rescued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) in Colorado Springs on Wednesday morning, July 17.

According to CPW , a juvenile hawk showed up in a cage at the Southeast Region Office on Sinton Road in Colorado Springs Wednesday morning. CPW said a cardboard box was covering the cage when the hawk was brought in, though it had no obvious injuries.

CPW said a great horned owl was also rescued by the Southeast Region Office on Wednesday. The owl appeared to have a wing injury, and together with its newfound friend the hawk, the owl was taken to the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Raptor Center in Pueblo to be rehabilitated.

If you see a wild bird and you are concerned about its health or safety, you can call any of CPW’s regional offices , and the office can respond to assess the bird.

CPW said this time of year is typically when young birds are learning to fly, and they can sometimes find themselves in trouble. Thankfully, the two found their way to CPW, which can give them the best shot of being rehabilitated and released back into the wild.
