PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck just as she got out of her own car in Hunting Park early Thursday morning, police said. Officials are looking for the hit-and-run driver.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. on Front Street just past Hunting Park Avenue, between the Hunting Park Post Office and Greenmount Cemetery.

Police said the 24-year-old victim had pulled her car over on Front Street and exited the vehicle. That’s when a pickup truck promptly drove by and hit her.

“After striking the female, the striking vehicle, described as a gray pickup truck, did not stop but fled the scene,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police said the driver kept going south on Front Street. Two women were in the car with the victim and called police. Medics took the victim to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

She was later identified as Tahtiana Diggs.

Police are pulling together witness accounts from the two women who were with the victim. Investigators are also looking for surveillance cameras in the neighborhood as they search for the hit-and-run driver.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department's Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3180, or call or text a tip at 215-686-8477.
