A Billionaire Who Moved To FL For "Safe," "Clean" Streets Has Just Donated Millions To A FL Facility

    2024-03-20

If you have lived in Florida for the last couple of years, you know that several billionaires have either moved their company headquarters to Florida or have moved their personal residence there.

Examples are Jeff Bezos, Josh Harris, Daniel Och, and Carl Icahn, to name just a few.

Another billionaire who made the Sunshine State his home in 2022 has just made a generous donation to a Florida facility - and this comes just weeks after a similar donation in Florida by the same donor.

About Ken Griffin's Move To Florida: Ken Griffin, founder of hedge fund Citadel, is worth around $37 billion, according to Bloomberg.

And while there are valuable tax benefits to wealthy individuals who move to Florida, Griffin has denied that this was his primary motivation for moving from Chicago to Miami, explaining in late 2022, in part:

"...taxes weren’t part of our decision to come to Florida...you’ve got great schools, a great environment, and your streets are safe and clean..."

Griffin's Generous Donations To Florida Institutions: Prior to the donation in question, Griffin has given to other Florida institutions including $20 million to Miami Dade College and $8 million to the Cox Science Center and Aquarium.

And in early March of 2024, I wrote about Griffin donating $50 million toward research and potential new cancer treatments at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami.

Griffin's New Donation At A Florida Facility: In mid-March of 2024, just weeks after the Sylvester donation, Griffin donated $50 million to the Baptist Health Foundation - the largest in its history, according to the South Florida Business Journal.

The monies will go toward the expansion of the Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute and a new facility at Baptist Hospital’s main campus which could treat diseases such as dementia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, epilepsy, and movement disorders.

Of the donation, Griffin said, in part:

"...“Baptist Health’s incredible team of dedicated doctors and researchers at Miami Neuroscience Institute bring hope and healing to individuals and families, both in our community and from around the world. I am proud to support Baptist’s work...”

The author is not affiliated with Baptist Health or any other facilities mentioned in this article.
