It probably will not surprise Floridians to learn that a new Publix is on the horizon in the Sunshine State. In the last month alone, I've written about a new Publix in The Shoppes At Orange Blossom and at The Plaza At Normandy, as a few examples. And now vacant land in Howey-in-the-Hills will become a new Publix.

The Details: In a deal that closed on July 23, 2024, Publix paid $1.966 million for 18 acres in Howey-in-the-Hills that will eventually become a new store.

Howey-in-the-Hills Town Manager Sean O'Keefe told the Orlando Business Journal that the town had been working with Publix for more than a year before the sale's closing.

The store will be built in a growing area. It will be close to Mission Resort + Club and The Lake Hills PUD, which has been previously approved for more than 700 homes and 150,000 square feet of commercial space.

Residents of Howey in the Hills who wish to shop at Publix now can shop at a location in Tavares. That Publix has been reviewed more than 1,600 times and gets a 4.6 out of 5 on Google reviews. Many reviewers comment on the customer service. A reviewer named Jane wrote:

"Exceptional customer service is clearly a high priority at Publix Tavares Crossroads, setting an industry standard for extraordinary courtesy. It's such a rare pleasure to shop at a business where clientele are valued, as reflected in every employee's genuine kindness and consideration."
