The La Center Our Days Steamboat Celebration returns this weekend with the theme “Wild West on the River” and a packed schedule, including the Twilight Parade, bingo, vendor fair and more.

On Friday, July 28, Our Days kicks off at 8 p.m. with the Twilight Parade. The parade starts at the high school and follows a route on East Fourth Street to Aspen Avenue and ends at West 10th Street and East Southview Heights Drive.

Our Days Committee Chair Wendy Chord said she is looking forward to the event as it continues to bounce back from COVID.

On Saturday, July 27, the central location of activities for the day will be at La Center’s Holley Park, 1000 E. Fourth St.

    The 5-kilometer run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. at Holley Park with check-in starting at 7 a.m.

A car show will follow at Holley Park, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with cars arriving at 8 a.m. to the Holley Park baseball fields. People can register for the show through Thursday, July 25, at Lacenterourdays.com/car-show. A vendor fair will also take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

A free Kids Zone will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. at Holley Park.

The beer garden will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 8 p.m. at the Holley Park tennis courts.

Also at 11 a.m., the Beautiful Baby Contest hosted by the Miss Teen La Center Court, will take place at the covered area of Holley Park. The contest is free to enter and includes three age categories: 0 to 6 months, 7 to 12 months and 13 to 18 months.

At 1 p.m., bingo will take place at the covered area of Holley Park. Following bingo, a Cake Walk will be held at Holley Park at 2:30 p.m.

Live music by Toby Jones will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Holley Park. Our Days will conclude with a showing of “Back to the Future 3” at Holley Park for the Movie In The Park finale.

Last year, Chord was excited for new La Center Mayor Tom Strobehn’s support of Our Days, which has carried over for a second year.

“I’m very excited about our mayor and what he is looking forward to doing with our city, and he is all about the community and the people and what we need,” Chord said.
