The number of evictions in Gainesville has increased
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - An organization that tracks evictions found that Gainesville is among the cities with the highest rates in the Country. Affordable housing in Gainesville has been difficult to find. Three Rivers Legal Services reports an increase in people being kicked out of their homes. Last year they had a thousand cases with eviction.
Alachua holds lowest residential electric rates in Florida
Halfway through the year, the city of Alachua is holding steady with the lowest residential electric rates in the state of Florida. A Florida Municipal Electric Association monthly study shows that Alachua has maintained the lowest rates in 1,000 kWh and 1,200 kWh residential bills every month, and most of the time in the 2,500 kWh bills.

Changes coming to Downtown Gainesville parking
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Over the next few weeks, residents who visit downtown may start to notice new parking signs and solar-powered pay stations with an increased price. On the weekdays, street spaces in the center of Downtown Gainesville will now be 50 cents per hour with a two-hour time limit instead of free, 25 cents an hour or free with no time limit outside of downtown, 50 cents an hour or free for off-street parking, and in the Southwest parking garage it will be 50 cents an hour with no time limit.

Wrap-around services to be provided at resource center in east Gainesville
A resource center in east Gainesville is now open with wrap-around services to meet the needs of those in the community. Launched by the Pleasant Street Civil Rights Cultural Arts Center at 1725 SE First Ave., the One Community Family Resource Center will house offices for community health workers, Pleasant Street CRCA, a conference room, space for a computer lab and a room to test residents for diabetes, high blood pressure and their cholesterol levels. ...
