Two events add some flavor to the annual Oregon Trail Days celebration each year – the International Food Fair on Friday and the Chili Cook-off on Saturday. Hemingford hosts last meet of the season
The Hemingford Swim Team had their chance to host not one but two meets this season. The team would like to thank everyone that helped make the day a success. The meet was scheduled to be in Torrington on Saturday, July 6, however due to their pool heaters being down Hemingford offered to host the meet here instead of cancelling the last meet of the season. Two of Hemingford's swimmers broke records on Saturday and the awards night was held at the Hemingford Pool on Sunday evening. That story and photos will be in next week's Ledger.
Old Settlers president recalls bands, floats of past Oregon Trail Days
Longtime Gering dentist George Schlothauer will be serving in the role of Honorary Old Settlers president for the 2024 Oregon Trail Days. Schlothauer was born and raised on a farm southeast of Gering, and started his education in a two-room schoolhouse before attending Gering Valley and Gering High School, where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1962.

Caution recommended for those celebrating during hot Oregon Trail Days weekend
This year’s Oregon Trail Days will be celebrated under a hot sun, and experts recommend that all attendees take precautions with their health and well-being. National Weather Service meteorologist Michael Natoli said that weather in the Panhandle is already hot, and will keep getting warmer as we approach the weekend.
Shooting Team Hits Bullseye at State
The Pine Bluffs shooting team competed in Torrington, Wyoming on Saturday, June 30th, at the state championship tournament. The team did very well. Ethan Bomberger received the 25 Straight patch for his perfect round of 25 in the second round. The kids had a lot of fun and according to Coach Brian Anderson "The kids shot well and really improved from last year."
