Old Oregon Trail to become M Street within Gering city limits
The Gering City Council approved the redesignation of Old Oregon Trail Road to M Street within city limits on Monday night. City Engineer Annie Folck said the need for change became apparent when the city began working to add additional addresses to the former Lockwood building, which would help first responders better identify points of entry.

Oralene Marie (Hall) Winchell, age 80, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 6, 2024, after a short losing battle with cancer. She was born in Mitchell, Nebraska on September 24, 1943. Daughter of Oral and Pansy (Trauernicht) Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ruth Snare; sister-inlaw; Judy Hall; brothers- inlaw, Ken McMillan and Jesse Crain; nieces, Kelley Crane and Tracy Walker; nephew, Tyler Hall; and numerous aunts uncles, and cousins.

Gering Platte Valley Companies Sweeps McCook MNB Bank Seniors in Double Header
Miles Pollmann collected three hits in four at bats, but McCook MNB Seniors lost to Platte Valley Companies 12-7 on Saturday at Gering. Pollmann doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning. McCook MNB Seniors were the first to get on the board in the first when Boston Gable induced Pollmann to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. In the bottom of the second, Platte Valley Companies broke up the tie when Kellen Dunn doubled, scoring one run. Then a single by Tanner Gartner followed to extend the lead to 5-3. Platte Valley Companies added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Gable singled, and Colter Shellito grounded out, each scoring one run. Gable earned the win for Platte Valley Companies. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and seven runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Gabe Roberts took the loss for McCook MNB Seniors. The starting pitcher went four innings, giving up nine runs (five earned) on eight hits, striking out none and walking one. Espn Hall and Pollmann each drove in two runs for McCook MNB Seniors. Gullion collected two hits for McCook MNB Seniors in four at bats. Platte Valley Companies piled up 11 hits in the game. Gable drove the middle of the lineup, leading Platte Valley Companies with three runs batted in. They went 2-for-3 on the day. Leadoff hitter Gartner led Platte Valley Companies with three hits in four at bats. Isaiah Murillo and Barron Williams each collected multiple hits for Platte Valley Companies. Gable and Williams each stole multiple bases for Platte Valley Companies.
Auto Racing: Jesson wins close finish in Superstocks at HiWay 92 Raceway
GERING —There were several close races at the HiWay 92 Raceway this past weekend with the main event winners also capturing the trophy dash honors. Racing is scheduled to continue this Saturday with the Minions, Bandoleros, Warriors, Limited Late Models, Vintage and the Legends in action. There will be fireworks after the races.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Gering Zion Church in Gering, Neb., with Pastor Tim Hebbert officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff.
