UPDATE: Search for missing man in Arkansas River continues Thursday

(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — The Otero County Sheriff’s Office announced it suspended search operations for the day on Wednesday, June 12 just before 8:15 p.m. after a 19-year-old man who went into the Arkansas River is still missing.
The Otero County Sheriff’s Office said additional resources would arrive to assist on Thursday, June 13 and that search and recovery efforts would continue in the morning.

UPDATE: Search ongoing for missing man in Arkansas River

FOX21 News spoke to the Otero County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, June 12 regarding the ongoing search for a man who went missing after going into the Arkansas River early on Wednesday morning.
According to the Sheriff’s Office , three people went into the Arkansas River on Wednesday morning; two were able to get out of the water but a third person, a 19-year-old man, is still missing. Three drones along with U.S. Army Corp of Engineers boats were launched to help in the search.
Also on Wednesday, during an unrelated river incident, another man was also rescued by La Junta Fire.
UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 6/12/2024 7:38 a.m.
The Otero County Sheriff’s Office said as of about 7:20 a.m. that the search and rescue operation was ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office added that it was unknown how many people may still be missing and that additional air and water resources were being requested to assist in search efforts.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies and La Junta Fire are searching for a man who went into the water earlier Wednesday morning.

The Otero County Sheriff’s Office and La Junta Fire Department are working on rescuing a person in the Arkansas River and are asking people to avoid the area.
According to deputies, at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12 crews were conducting a search and rescue on the Arkansas River in the north La Junta area.
the Sheriff’s Office issued a reminder that the Arkansas River is running high and much faster than it appears and is advising people to stay out of the river.
