(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — The La Junta Police Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are investigating what they suspect to be a murder-suicide involving two adults and two children.

Late in the evening on Tuesday, June 11, police were called to the 1100 block of Smithland Avenue in La Junta. When officers arrived, they found two adults and two children shot at the scene, inside the house. The two adults and one of the children were dead, and the second child was transported to a Denver-area hospital, where they later died of their injuries.

Very few details have been released at this time, but according to police, initial information indicates that this was not a random incident and that the people involved were known to each other. Anyone with information is asked to call the La Junta Police Department at (719) 384-2535.

We will continue to release information on this case as it becomes available.
