Robert Peters of North Branch, NY, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 12, 2024, after a long illness. He was 92. He was born on November 29, 1931, in Fall River, Massachusetts to Claude and Mary Peters. At the age of 9, his family moved to Cooley, Pennsylvania and later to Callicoon. Bob attended DVCS until 1950. He then joined the Navy and served during the Korean War. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Pat. They married in 1954 and eventually settled in North Branch.

Florida Man Had 13 'Explosive Devices' In Truck, Pennsylvania State Police
The unnamed man was stopped in Tobyhanna on July 5 and "deemed to be under the influence," according to troopers. Authorities obtained a warrant and said they found 13 explosives during a search of his GMC Sierra. PSP's Hazardous Device and Explosives Section (HDES) took custody of the devices for investigation, police said.
Rally for Russ
The community turned out Saturday to support Russell Canevari, who underwent a kidney transplant surgery on July 3. The Rally for Russ was held at VFW Post 5544 in Jessup. Jennifer Jackson, Canevari’s daughter, said everything was donated for the fundraiser, and the Valley View’s girl’s basketball team volunteered to serve the dinners. “Everybody’s pitching in to help raise money for him because he’s always helping everyone else,” Jackson said of her father. She hoped to raise $10,000 from the fundraiser to help her dad on his medical journey.

Officials Issue Water Safety Warning after Two Delaware River Drownings in as Many Weeks
The Delaware River is beautiful and serene, attracting visitors and tourists alike, however, the Delaware can also be dangerous and officials are reminding the public to exercise caution and safety after two drownings in as many weeks. “You have to be extra careful because the surface of the river seems calm, but it is not,” City of Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden said. “There is a strong undercurrent and the water can go from shallow to over your head quickly. You always have to be aware and we urge residents to use designated beaches with a lifeguard and wear a life jacket. You can enjoy Delaware, but you have to be responsible.”
