On one end of the season’s first Mosey Down Main Street, Threepios, a Star Wars cover band dressed as Han Solo and Princess Leia, played ‘80s pop with twists, like “Luke and R2 Blew Up the Death Star” (a take on “Video Killed the Radio Star”).

On the other end, Rain on the Rocks, a three-piece band, played a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.”

“We will not play ‘Free Bird,’ so don’t even ask,” Sydney Piercy, guitarist and vocalist of Rain on the Rocks, joked during their set Saturday night.

This was the band’s first Mosey Down Main Street gig, she said. The three girls are from Bloomington, but Piercy went to Purdue and lives in Lafayette.

Piercy said the band started playing together in spring 2022, right before her solo gig. After two days of practice, they played their first live show.

“We all love watching and playing live music,” Piercy said. “It’s intimate and brings people together. There’s also just something about live music you can’t get from studio sound.”

Down the road in Lafayette, Three Shepherds Dog Accessories sold bowties, collars and bandanas for dogs. 765 and Benderthrifts set up racks of vintage clothes for attendees to look through. Sparkle Strands tied glitter hair tinsel into attendees’ hair.

Jessica Reynolds, a Lafayette resident, ran her booth, Jessie Ann Co. The booth sold an assortment of jewelry, keychains, rings, wall hangings and more, all made from various eccentric items, like keys and cheese graters.

“You can tell I love repurposing,” she said, laughing.

She picked up a salt and pepper shaker and explained how she had made it.

“A lot of (ideas) would come from finding these and sanding down cheesy little sayings on it for, like, vacations and whatnot,” Reynolds said. “It just depends on the day and the time, what I want, what I feel like doing. I just go with inspiration off other artists and put my own twist on it.”

Although she’s been going to Moseys for a long time, this is the second year she’s been a vendor, she said. She prepared for a long time.

“I made a goal to set three items per night after I got home from work,” Reynolds said.

This past year, Reynolds taught herself how to solder.

“I’ve always been artistic. I make stuff all the time, I just didn’t know what to do with it,” she said.

Farther down, people lined up to order soft serve ice cream hosted by the Lafayette Lions Club. Customers were also able to decorate their ice cream themselves, with glitter and sprinkles.

Charlie Short, a club member, stood beside a sign and invited people over.

“We’re most famous for aid to the blind and visually impaired,” Short said. “And that’s why we have the ice cream trailer so we can raise a little money and help people out.”

As people passed by, Short greeted and shook their hands. He’s been involved with the Lafayette Lions Club and Mosey Down Main Street for a long time, he said.

“Well, it’s been a great place to live,” he said.

Mosey Down Main Street will also be June 8, July 13, Aug. 10 and Aug. 31.
