July Fourth's Stars and Stripes festival features Citizens Band, fireworks show

Downtown Lafayette's Stars and Stripes Festival on Thursday evening will be an event full of food, local music, and of course, a firework show.

At 5 p.m. regional food vendors such as Rollin' in the Dough Pizza and Tacos Mexico will begin rolling in on Second and Main street.

Musical performances will begin at 6:00 p.m, with Lafayette's Jefferson Jazz Combo & Alumni Band playing, followed by Clave Caribe, a latin band influenced by genres such as cumbia, salsa and bossa nova, at 7 p.m.

At 8 p.m. the 61-person Lafayette Citizens Band will join the 47-person Freedom Singers performing patriotic tunes such as America the Beautiful and The Star-Spangled Banner.

The Lafayette Citizens Band will be led by Purdue's Matthew Conaway, the director of the Boiler Brass, Men's Basketball pep band.

Mayors Erin Easter and Tony Roswarski, and other county officials will acknowledge and thank sponsors at 8:50 p.m, followed by a brief appearance of the Tippecanoe Ancient Fife and Drum Corps.

At 9:15 p.m, the Lafayette Citizens Band and Freedom Singers will again perform a mix of classics before the 10 p.m. fireworks show.

Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs, and all the music performed by will be broadcasted on Woof Boom's Q106.7.

The City of Lafayette published a news release Wednesday that the celebrations will continue as planned, citing clear weather from 5 p.m. to midnight Thursday.
