LAFAYETTE, Ind. ― Cole Hoinaes is sporting two new gunshot wounds on his right arm Thursday after he mishandled a pistol, according to Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

Hoinaes, 20, was inside his garage about 2:45 a.m. Thursday in the 3900 block of Chenango Place in West Lafayette when he dropped his sidearm, according to police. He reached to catch the gun, and his finger got stuck in the trigger guard, causing the trigger to be pulled, according to police.

The bullet ricocheted off the garage floor and grazed his right forearm and upper arm, police said. His injuries were not serious, police said.

Hoinaes said he thought the gun was unloaded.

Several shots fired in Holloway Street apartment

Police were called to an apartment in the 1000 block of Holloway Street about 6:20 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports of several shots fired, police said.

Outside Apartment 8, police found several shell casings, and witnesses said they hear shots fired inside the apartment, too.

Police found more shell casings inside the apartment, as well as the tenant who is suspected of firing the shots.

No one was injured in the shootings, police said.

Police booked Tristen Clements, 20, of Lafayette, into the Tippecanoe County Jail on suspicion of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. He remained incarcerated Thursday afternoon.
