LAFAYETTE, Ind. ― Indiana State Police troopers found a semi driver in his 60s dead Wednesday afternoon inside the rig's cab after it drove off the east side of Interstate 65 about three miles north of the Indiana 43 exit.

Indiana State Police said the tractor and trailer left the interstate about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and came to rest in the brush well off the highway, according to state police.

Troopers tried to revive the driver but were unsuccessful, police said.

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello said the presumptive identification of the driver indicates he is in his 60s and is not from Indiana. The trucking company that owns the rig and trailer are in Illinois, she said.

The accident and the driver's death remain under investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, Costello said.
