LAFAYETTE, Ind. ― Marquise McDowell ran toward a car filled with young adults at Peters Mill on Eisenhower Court on May 12, shooting at the car and putting several holes in it, according to prosecutors.
The car McDowell is accused of shooting at had just arrived in the parking area at the creek's access and quickly turned around, speeding from the scene, according to prosecutors.
One of the people in the car McDowell targeted returned fire, striking McDowell in the leg, according to prosecutors, who on July 12 filed 10 felony charges against McDowell.
The charges were unsealed Friday after McDowell, 20, of the 100 block of South 28th Street in Lafayette, was arrested on the warrants charging him with felonies of attempted aggravated battery, attempted battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, intimidation and a misdemeanor of criminal mischief.

The young adults targeted by McDowell drove to a parent's house on Maple Street and called police, explaining to the deputies what happened. Meanwhile, deputies went to the scene of the shooting at the public access site on the Wildcat Creek, where officers found shell casings and broken glass.
While deputies investigated the shootings, Lafayette police were sent to an area hospital, where McDowell was taken for his leg wound. McDowell was treated that afternoon and released from the hospital.
McDowell was arrested Thursday, and he had his initial hearing on Friday.
He remained incarcerated Monday in lieu of a $30,000 surety bond and a $3,000 cash bond.
