Lafayette officials recognize many of Acadiana's homeless are veterans; discussions underway on plan to get funding
The recent excessive heat raises concerns that Acadiana's homeless could soon find themselves without any shelter, especially after Gov. Jeff Landry vetoed $1 million for Catholic Charities of Acadiana. City and state officials say many of the homeless served by Catholic Charities are veterans. Some of those officials are now working on a plan to convince Gov. Landry to reconsider funding.

A New Orleans nonprofit group that specializes in affordable housing has bought the property for two of its three planned Lafayette apartment projects. Atrium Housing closed on a deal to buy the 11-acre lot in the 200 block of Ridge Road for $1.45 million, land records show. It is planning two 96-unit projects at the site that will be called Ridge Commons and Loop Commons.

LAFAYETTE, LA (July 2, 2024) – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG)’s Public Works Department announces the closure of Canberra Road, approximately 0.40 miles east of Johnston Street, beginning July 8, 2024.
