Details on investigation of puppies being thrown in dumpster

OPELOUSAS, La. ( KLFY ) – Two puppies are now safe and ready for a new home after security cameras at Sebastian’s West End Seafood captured the dogs owners putting them in a dumpster.

“I got a phone call on Sunday morning from a neighbor that happened to be passing and heard a noise in my dumpster. And out of curiosity, he looked in to see what it was, and he saw a puppy. And when he stepped closer, he saw there were two puppies,” says store owner, Sharon Sebastien.

Sebastien says once she was made aware of the dogs being put in the dumpster, she found the footage from the surveillance cameras and sent the footage to Parish Government, when Parish Investigator Spencer Cornette could review the footage and begin looking for the suspects. “So we went from door to door, most residences in the area, and no one seemed to know the two suspects.”

However, things took a turn for the best when St. Landry Parish Government posted a picture of the suspects on social media. “And then within about an hour we had a tip come in.”

Once the tip was received, Cornette says the suspects were able to be identified as Jasmine Mouton and Kendall Tyler. Cornette, along with Parish President Jessie Bellard went straight to the suspects residence and made the arrest. “Both subjects were arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals. They were both booked into the St. Landry Parish jail,” says Cornette.

“I don’t know what provoked her to do that, but that’s dog will be acceptable. It shouldn’t be acceptable anywhere. You know, fortunately, we do have the video, so she can’t say she didn’t do it,” says Bellard.

A new home has been found for the puppies. And in the meantime, they’ll be staying with one of the employees at Sebastian’s West End Seafood.
