LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — UFC fighter and Lafayette Native Dustin Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation is gifting $35,000 to FoodNet Food Bank for Acadiana families experiencing hunger.

“A lot of people don’t understand that the only hot meal some of these kids get is during the school year at school,” Poirier said. “I don’t think any kid should not have a lunch or have dinner on the table and the people here are doing a great job at doing that.”

That donation was matched by other community organizations to make it $70,000 going to FoodNet. According to Ben Broussard with Catholic Charities of Acadiana, this is one of the largest gifts in the organization’s history. These donations will be able to serve an estimated 7,000 families not only here in Lafayette, but all over Acadiana.

“It makes that effort more critical to fund FoodNet Food Bank so that we can purchase that food locally and put it on the table of our families and individuals who are experiencing hunger,” Broussard said.
