LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY )– In three days, Himbola Manor Apartment Complex residents will gather for a crucial town hall meeting. Lafayette City Councilman Elroy Broussard scheduled the meeting for Thursday.

Councilman Broussard is not alone in addressing the concerns. The city’s chief administrative officer shared the Lafayette Consolidated Government’s stance on the issue and that they are aware of the reported living conditions at Himbola.

The chief administrative officer (CAO), Rachel Godeaux, told New 10 that they will attend Thursday’s public meeting.

“We have been in conversations with Councilman Broussard, and we are planning on attending and giving a good show of support to understand the needs of the residents and also the neighborhood,” Godeaux said.

City Council Vice-Chairman Kenneth Boudreaux has an agenda item at Tuesday’s city council meeting focusing on establishing an inspection rental program to prevent neglect.

“We got facilities leaking gas and sewage, where doors are being nailed, and people are entering and exiting through windows.  We wonder how it gets that way.  It’s because no one is looking at the facility,” Boudreaux said.

Boudreaux emphasizes the need for urgent action, but with effective timing.

“Some say y’all need to shut that place down. Well, we got to see where do these people go? We know of the housing crisis and the housing shortage that already exists,” Boudreaux noted.

“We (LCG) do understand that the community wants to be heard, and we want to hear what the community has to say,” Godeaux added.

The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18 in the gymnasium of the Martin Luther King Recreation Center at 309 Cora Street in Lafayette.
