LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — A man tried to steal from an ATM in Lafayette early Saturday, but left without succeeding, bank officials said.
The suspect tried to break into the ATM at the Catalyst Bank location at 914 South College Road in Lafayette using a power saw at around 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the bank’s Director of Marketing, Blair Green.
“The suspect is seen on the video approaching the front of the ATM with the saw,” Green said. “He is spooked by a car only to return a few moments later to try and complete the job. However, our ATMs are highly sophisticated and had already picked up on the vibrations and alerted the police. The suspect left the scene unsuccessful and has not been identified by LPD to date.”
“I feel sorry for the guy in his line of work. You’re constantly looking over your shoulder, wondering when you’re going to get caught. It makes it really tough to sleep at night,” Joe Zanco, President and CEO of Catalyst Bank said. “My advice to him would be earn an honest living. You know, you’re out at 4 a.m. on a Saturday morning trying to steal from people. It’s wrong, and it’s a mighty heavy cross for him to bear.”
The car the suspect was driving is clearly visible in the surveillance footage, with a Tennessee license plate number 547-BLLH.
Anyone with information related to this incident, is asked to contact The Lafayette Police Department or Lafayette Crime Stopper at (337) 232-TIPS (8477).
