LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Residents on Grossie Drive in Lafayette are concerned about a tree after it split from the high winds during the May storms.

“It’s going to fall eventually if they go too much. That’s for sure. It will not take much,” the property owner said.

According to neighbors, power lines were disrupted causing power outages in the area when the tree collapsed. The property owner and residents said workers were able to cut the part of the tree impacting the lines, but the rest of it was left for the property owner to take care of. In the direct path of where the tree would fall is a school bus stop for neighborhood kids to get picked up and dropped off. This is a major concern everyone is having.

“Kids could be here any day just waiting on the bus to say anything. Just anything can happen,” resident Jazmine Randell said.

News 10 has spoken to the property owner who said he and neighbors have reached out for help from multiple organizations and government agencies. He said they do not have the resources to remove the tree.

“We just have our fingers crossed that someone can come out and assist,” one neighbor said.

“You’ll see it for yourself. It’s hanging on by a piece of thread,”

The property owner and neighbors urge any tree removal experts to reach out as soon as possible if they are willing to help remove the tree before the school year starts.
