Crepes Locos started selling its products to the public in June, and in the coming weeks, it will be even more available to customers.

Crepes Locos sells sweet crepes with various fillings and toppings. It has up to 11 flavors: s'more, biscoff, cookies and creme, loco monkey, cheesecake, classic, banana pudding, apple pie, brownie, red velvet and peanut butter dream.

But customers also have the option to create their own with the variety of fillings and toppings.

Crêpes are a traditional French dish. It is a thin, light pancake, often paired with toppings and sauces. Crepes Locos prepares its batter the night before to ensure freshness. Orders are cooked to a golden brown on a crepe maker in front of the customers.

Candice Rivera is the owner of Crepes Locos. She said she is excited to bring something new to the Lafayette-area.

“It was something I thought people would enjoy, and it's something I enjoy doing,” Rivera said. “I loved the idea, I loved the product, I just hoped others would as much as I did.”

Rivera said Crepes Locos began after a trip to Dallas to visit family, where she discovered a small street market bustling with food vendors.

“Intrigued by a lady making crepes in a booth, I tried one for the first time and was instantly captivated by its light sweetness and perfect blend of flavors,” Rivera said. “Back home, inspired by the experience, my husband suggested we try making crepes ourselves.”

After weeks of practicing with a new crepe maker and experimenting with recipes, Rivera said she was able to perfect her own version.

She was encouraged by friends and family to sell her products. Currently, Crepes Locos sells out at the Lafayette Jockey Lot Flea Market in Lafayette from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

In the coming weeks, Rivera said she plans to have a food truck, near the beginning of August. Her goal is to have her crêpes available for her customers, some of whom have to drive almost an hour.

“I want to be able to take my crêpes all around the area for people to try,” Rivera said. “I would love to be able to visit all the neighboring cities and towns so they can get a chance to try them. I would love to take my crêpes to all the nearby events and festivals. Also, with having a better set up in a trailer, that will give me the option to expand my menu and include savory crepes as well.”

Rivera said Crepes Locos is here to serve the community of Lafayette and beyond. She is looking forward to what’s to come.

“It's always fun to do something you enjoy,” Rivera said. “I love seeing my customers' reactions, comments and posts about what they got and how much they enjoyed it.”
