    2 injured in plane crash that shut down Lafayette Municipal Airport

    MACON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A plane crash shut down Lafayette Airport Sunday afternoon, according to Macon County Sheriff Joey Wilburn.

    Wilburn told News 2 that the crash, which involved a 2-seat aircraft, happened at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.

    At least two people were injured. One of those people was reportedly transported via helicopter to an area hospital.

    The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sent a statement on Monday, July 8, stating that the crash remains under investigation.

    “A single-engine Super Drifter crashed at Lafayette Municipal Airport in Macon County, Tennessee, around 3:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, July 7. Two people were on board. The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide further updates.”

    Those injured have not yet been identified and their condition is unknown. No other information was immediately released.
