Warwick DPW honored for tool design
The Village of Warwick Department of Public Works earned second place in the New York State LTAP Center — Cornell Local Roads Program 2024 Build A Better Mousetrap Competition for its development of “The Fin-isher,” an innovative tool that allows for efficient and effective replacement of a broken curve box rod with minimal soil disturbance. The contraption, which replaces the need for digging large holes with an excavator by using a vac truck to create a smaller, more precise hole, also impressed other DPW supervisors, who honored the entry with first place in the People’s Choice Award.
Stroudsburg man found guilty of brutal attack on homeless man at Tent City
A Stroudsburg man was found guilty on charges including a criminal attempt to commit homicide after an incident where he beat and robbed a homeless man in Monroe County. According to Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso, 36-year-old Darrell Lashawn Best was a homeless man who assaulted another homeless man, 59-year-old Albert Haase, at a location known as "Tent City" in the East Stroudsburg Area on October 6, 2023.

Two residents in Paterson, N.J., admitted to conspiring with a physician to distribute opioids without a legitimate medical reason. Jasmine McGregor, 32, and Jhenelle Lewis, 35, pleaded guilty to conspiring with Lisa Ferraro, MD, to prescribe oxycodone to people who were not actually Dr. Ferraro’s patients and whom she never examined or questioned, according to a July 18 news release from the Justice Department.
