Den of Lions club soccer team earns second straight national championship berth
ROSELAND – The Den of Lions U17 soccer club team is headed back to the U.S. Club Soccer National Championship Cup in Denver, Colo. The Newark-based team coached by Brazilian-born Regis Amarante features four players who call Roseland home: team captain Kevin Rodrigues, Gabe Adelsberg, Drew Cerqueira and James Fries, all of whom also played for the West Essex High School boys soccer team this past fall.
Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Announces Historic Gift from Andrea and Anthony Melchiorre to Support New Cancer Center
(BPT) - Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has received a visionary gift of $30 million from Andrea and Anthony Melchiorre to support the new multidisciplinary standalone cancer center now under construction on the hospital campus in Livingston, New Jersey. The Melchiorre Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center will open in 2025.
Five Pocono football games to watch in 2024
It is almost time for high school football in the Poconos, and there are plenty of games to be excited about in 2024. While the rivalries are always attractive and anticipated, there are some other games that carry a lot of implications for the postseason. Below are some of the games that fans on the mountain should watch this coming fall.
Chester Library offers programs for all ages
CHESTER – The Chester Library offers the following programs for patrons of all ages. The library is located at 250 W. Special Adult Programs • Summer Reading Program will be held throughout July and August, with two chances to win a $1,000 gift card. Participants read a book, briefly summarize the plot, and say if they like it or not. The first drawing is July 31; the second, Aug. 31. Ongoing Adult Programs • Classic Yoga – evening, 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25. Join Danielle for a gentle yoga in the Larison Room. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel and beverage. • Just Write, 9:45 am, Thursday, July 18. All writers, from beginners to experienced, are invited to join. • Knitting Group, 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, July 24 and 31. • Mah Jongg. noon, Tuesday, July 23. All levels are welcomed. • Jewelry Making for Adults, 11 a.m. Monday, July 22. Participants can design their own bracelet or necklace with beautiful colored beads. • Bunco, 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25. Children and Teen Programs • Summer Reading Program. This program encourages reading for pleasure and helps maintain reading skills during the summer months. The club will be reading “Kid Spy: The Sound of Danger.” Books will be provided at the first session. • Cinderella, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18. Cinderella will visit the library to share a story, sing some songs and make a craft. • Puppet Show: “Aesop’s Fables,” 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 24. For kids kindergarten through fourth grade. This performance by Robert Rogers Puppet Company will include several familiar tales. • Chemical Wizardry, 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 25. For ages 6 to 12. This program features demonstrations and some hands-on make and take experiments. • Wildlife Show, 2 to 2:45 p.m. Monday, July 29. For ages 4 and older. This presentation features up-close view of live animals from around the world. Tween and Teen Programs • Improv Workshop, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24. For kids 10 to 14. Actor-educator Emily Vorp from Stage-a-Story will lead an hour of improvised fun with engaging acting games and made-up scenes. • Jewelry Workshop: Friendship Bracelets, 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31. For kids in grades 4 through 12.
