You’ll Be True Blue This Weekend at This Minnesota Festival
I love fruits. Apples, oranges, bananas, grapes and especially blueberries. I’ve been eating blueberries lately like they’re going out of style. By themselves, in my cereal, even in a salad, I’ve gotten creative lately with how I eat them. If you’re like me and you enjoy blueberries,...
Minnesota is a good place for children, but we can still do better
I’m proud to call Minnesota home. One reason is because our state values its young people. Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota was happy to learn Minnesota retained its rank as America’s fifth best state for child well-being, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s 2024 KIDS COUNT Data Book. We should celebrate this extraordinary accomplishment. Beautiful Wednesday in Twin Cities to start dry stretch
MINNEAPOLIS — A really nice Wednesday in the works with high pressure and a gentle wind coming in out of the east. Expect plenty of sunshine and temperatures fighting to break into the 80s.A wind shift will allow for more of a southerly wind helping us warm up on Thursday and Friday and eventually taking our temperatures to the upper 80s or maybe even 90 by the weekend. We should remain dry for the rest of the week, with an increase in humidity as the temperatures build. It looks like we're good for the Aquatennial stretch, but there's a chance for storms to return near the end of the weekend and the start of next week.More Canadian wildfire smoke to pour into MinnesotaIf you're in the western half of Minnesota on Wednesday, you could see some wildfire smoke, and it could end up spreading to the metro.By Thursday, the entire state, except the northeast, could experience some level of smoke.

WCCO investigates the state of Minnesota's dams and what's being done to reduce the risk
MINNEAPOLIS — Images of the Rapidan Dam from last month show what a powerful force water can be. A partial failure pushed the Blue Earth River around the dam, taking land and a home with it. That wasn't the only dam that failed during the historic rainfall and flooding — two others had issues as well. Minnesota is home to 1,162 dams. So how likely is it to happen again?Across the metro and the state, dams control flooding on waterways, maintain lake levels for recreation and help fish and wildlife. Some are big structures. Others you might miss. Each has a...
