    1 dead, 1 remains missing in Kern River near Sandy Flat; search called off Thursday due to heat

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person was found dead and another remains missing after entering the Kern River near the Sandy Flat area, Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials said Thursday evening.

    Search and rescue teams were called to the area of Keysville Road and Pearl Harbor Drive in Lake Isabella for a report of people entering the water just before 1 p.m.

    Officials said a man and woman, described to be in their 30s, entered the river “in distress.” The sheriff’s office said the woman’s body was recovered by Search and Rescue crews at around 4 p.m. near Keysville Beach. The man remains missing in the Kern River.

    The search was called off at around 6 p.m. due to heat. The search will resume in the morning, officials said.
